Richmond is a small community located in the southern most tip of the Northern Cape Province in the middle of the Karoo, which is part of the Kalahari Desert. Richmond is halfway between Johannesburg and Cape Town. The land is very dry and the only real employment base is the sheep farms that surround the town. Unemployment is in excess of 70%. Health issues are staggering with the current rate of HIV/AIDS infection estimated to be in excess of 35% of the population.
