Welcome to the Official Web Site of Hope for South Africa.
The needs throughout Africa and the World, as in the United States, are huge. However we need to start somewhere to bring Hope and Peace and we have been directed to Richmond South Africa. With the strong support of our local South African partners in the Richmond community, including the Dutch Reformed Church, the Town of Richmond and St. Matthew’s Anglican Church, our efforts are enhanced and we can focus our resources with local direction. With our local partners, we are starting to rebuild this neglected community of only 9,000 people. However, we need to start at the beginning by reinforcing the basic principles of pride and dignity that this community has lost in the social turmoil and political transitions of the last several decades. Already in the first two years of our partnerships we have crossed racial and religious barriers and worked to foster greater understanding and growth in one small community in the NEW South Africa. We invite you to be part of these grass roots efforts. There is not a big administration or fancy offices in our efforts, just a group of individuals with a vision to make a difference in the lives of some people in South Africa who have so little when we have so much. By opening up our hearts and releasing some of our resources, we can bring HOPE and PEACE to some individuals and then perhaps the new South Africa will be a place of hope for the entire continent and the World. We welcome your interest and encourage you to be part of our message of Hope for South Africa.
Richmond is a small community located in the southern most tip of the Northern Cape province in the middle of the Karoo, which is part of the Kalahari Desert. Richmond is halway between Johannesburg and Cape Town. The land is very dry and the only real employment base is the sheep farms that surround the town. Unemployment is in excess of 70%. Health issues are staggering with the current rate of HIV/AIDS infection estimated to be in excess of 35% of the population.
Our current efforts are focused as follows. We invite you to be part of the solution. Many thanks for your interest! |
